Rail Type

Rails for Icare homecare beds. Which one you need depends on whether you are preventing a fall or helping someone move. All five are slip-on, mount anywhere along the bed side rather than at fixed points, and are designed to IEC 60601-2-52, the international bed rail safety standard.

U-Assist Rail (ACUSR)

The slimmest option, and it is a grab rail rather than a barrier. Multiple grip points let someone pull themselves up or steady a transfer. This is the one to choose when the goal is independence. Length 6 in, 21 in above the mattress platform, 4 in rail spacing.

High Side Rail (ACHSR)

Four-bar hybrid design, small enough to use as a grab rail but tall enough to aid positioning and prevent roll-out. The usual choice for getting in and out of bed. Length 14 in, 23 in above the platform, 4.5 in spacing.

Low Side Rail (ACLSR)

Three-bar support rail for stability and fall prevention, with multiple horizontal rails to support transfers and sitting up. Length 27 in, 17 in above the platform, 4.5 in spacing.

Extendable Side Rail (ACESR)

Two-position and user operated. The person can retract it themselves to get in and out, then extend it for a secure barrier. Length 27 in to 37 in, 18 in above the platform, 4 in spacing.

Full Length Fold Down Rail, left or right (ACFSRL / ACFSRR)

Four-bar full coverage with a carer-release that folds toward the foot of the bed for transfers and bedside access. Length 55 in, 19 in above the platform, 3 in spacing. Sold as single sides, so order two if you need both.

Ordering left and right

Icare prescribes rails from the user's perspective: left means the user's left as they lie in bed, right means the user's right. Get this the wrong way round and the rail arrives on the wrong side.
