Professional Compression Fitting

Compression only works if it fits. That sounds obvious, and it is the single thing most people get wrong when they buy online.

Compression is sized on the circumference of your ankle, your calf and, for thigh highs, your upper thigh. It has nothing to do with your shoe size or your dress size. Two people who wear the same size shoe can need completely different compression sizes, and a garment that is too large does nothing at all while one that is too small can restrict instead of support. At 20-30 mmHg and above, that stops being a comfort problem and starts being a medical one.

So we measure you. It takes about twenty minutes and you walk out knowing your size for good.

What happens in a fitting

We measure both legs. Ankle, calf, and thigh if you are being fitted for thigh highs, plus the length from floor to knee or floor to thigh. Legs are rarely identical, and we size to the one that needs it.

We measure at the right time. Legs swell over the course of a day, so morning measurements are the most accurate. If you come in the afternoon with noticeable swelling, we will tell you honestly whether to come back in the morning instead of selling you a size that will be wrong by next week.

We talk through pressure levels. 15-20 mmHg for everyday wear, standing all day, travel and pregnancy. 20-30 and 30-40 for medical need. If your physician recommended a specific level, we fit what they recommended. If nobody has told you what you need, we will give you a straight answer about what the symptoms you are describing usually call for, and when you should be talking to a doctor instead of us.

We show you how to put them on. This is the step everyone skips and it is why compression ends up in a drawer. Done right it takes fifteen seconds and no wrestling. We will show you the technique and, if your grip or reach makes it hard, show you the donning aids that solve it.

We write your size down. Yours to keep. Reordering later, online or by phone, becomes a thirty second job.

What it costs

Free with any purchase. If you buy a garment the day of your fitting, there is no fitting charge.

$35 on its own if you want to be measured and think about it. That $35 comes straight off your purchase if you buy from us within 30 days. Take your measurements elsewhere if you want to. We would rather you be measured properly than not measured at all.

Use your HSA or FSA

Compression garments are HSA and FSA eligible, and no letter of medical necessity is required. You are paying with pre-tax dollars, which depending on your bracket makes an $80 pair cost you closer to $55 or $60. Bring the card.

Who should come in rather than order online

  • Anyone buying 20-30 mmHg or higher for the first time
  • Anyone who has tried compression before and found it too tight, too loose, or impossible to get on
  • Anyone managing swelling, varicose veins, or a vascular condition
  • Anyone who has been measured once and is not sure the size was ever right
  • Anyone buying thigh highs, where length and thigh circumference both matter and guessing almost never works

If you already know your size and you are reordering, order online and skip the trip. That is what the website is for.

A note on replacement

Compression garments lose their elasticity with wear and washing. Most need replacing every six months, sooner if you wear them daily. A garment that has gone soft is not doing the job you bought it for, even though it still looks fine. We keep your size on file and will remind you when you are due.
